On March 8th, we celebrate International Women’s Day – a day to recognize and honor the contributions of women in the workplace and society as a whole. At SAR, we take pride in all our employees – both women and men. However, in light of this special day, we want to take a moment to highlight and appreciate our female colleagues in our operations department at Mongstad. Every day, they contribute to driving our business forward with expertise, determination, and dedication.
At Mongstad, we see how our female employees help build strong teams where collaboration and competence take center stage. With a shared goal of delivering the most environmentally friendly solutions, they ensure that the entire process – from waste reception to final treatment – is carried out with the highest quality.
Today, the department consists of 25 employees, with as many as 14 being women. Together, they represent a wide range of professions and areas of responsibility. Some of these job categories were, until recently, considered quite unconventional choices for women. This demonstrates that old barriers are breaking down and that skilled professionals are finding their place – regardless of gender.

Waste management is not about quick fixes; it’s about precise processes that must be followed from A to Å. Strict regulations and procedures must be adhered to, and health, safety, and environmental standards are always our top priority. Our vision, “Turning Waste to Value,” runs like a red thread through every step of our operations.
When we ask our female colleagues what motivates them, the answer is clear: great colleagues, varied tasks, and exciting challenges. Gender has never been a barrier – what matters is engagement, the content of the workday, and the sense of community.
Department Manager Karina Borgen Solen is proud of her team and the diversity they represent.
With vastly different backgrounds and experiences from various industries, they all agree that every experience is valuable in their current roles.

The women in our operations department describe their work as meaningful. They are part of an industry where sustainability, circularity, and recycling are at the core – and that brings an extra sense of pride. When they talk about their work, they notice a growing interest and enthusiasm from others.
